Julian Assange and Brian Pead – similarities of State persecution

From the Independent 04 May 2019 Julian Assange: WikiLeaks founder given disproportionate sentence for ‘minor’ crime, UN legal experts claim Julian Assange was “disproportionate” sentence for a bail violation, the United Nations has said as it accused British authorities of breaching his human rights. The WikiLeaks founder was handed a 50-week sentence earlier this week and is being held at Belmarsh Prison in south-east London. He is fighting an extradition request made by the US over an alleged hacking conspiracy. The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention said it was deeply concerned about the “disproportionate” sentence and claimed that violating bail was only “a minor violation”. “The working group is further concerned that Mr Assange has been detained since 11 April 2019 in Belmarsh Prison, a high-security prison, as if he were convicted for a serious criminal offence,” it said. “This treatment appears to contravene the principles of necessity and proportionality envisaged by the human rights standards.” The panel added: “It is worth recalling that the detention and the subsequent bail of Mr Assange in the UK were connected to … Continue reading

Evidence of police corruption and abuse at Charing Cross police station

‘Corrupt’ Scotland Yard officers in drugs and sex inquiry The Evening Standard yesterday (30th April 2019) reported that: “A Scotland Yard unit tasked with fighting crime in the West End is at the centre of an inquiry into allegations of bullying, racism, drug use and perverting the course of justice. Up to 11 officers face claims of wrongdoing stemming from an inquiry by a watchdog which was triggered by reports that an officer had sex with a woman at Charing Cross police station. Most of the officers were on the Met’s West End Zone Impact Team, formed in 2014 to tackle night-time crime and violence around Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, which has now been  disbanded. The Independent Office for Police Conduct today announced that the scope of the original inquiry had “widened considerably”. It said analysis of phone messages between officers had uncovered evidence of a number of serious allegations involving the police team at Charing Cross. The allegations include: Violence towards women and taking advantage of vulnerable people. Perverting the course of justice by deleting messages relevant to a … Continue reading

Brian Pead makes Official Complaint to Minister for Pensions

Dear Mr Opperman, An Open Letter re: (i)                  unpaid winter fuel payments; (ii)                unlawful interference with my State Pension & Pension Credit; (iii)               unlawful withholding of my Teacher’s Pension. I write to you in your capacity as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Work and Pensions. I also note from your website that you worked as a barrister for 20 years and I therefore believe that you are suitably qualified to address my Official Complaints. I should immediately make you aware that on 31st December 2013 and again on 4th February 2019, I issued Official Complaints against HM Government under Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights. These complaints have not been addressed which as a barrister, you will know, is a further direct breach of my rights and those of my family. I do not propose to regale with the full details which led me to take the step of initiating an Official Complaint against HM Government but instead to focus only on the way in which my Pensions have been unlawfully interfered with. You … Continue reading
